BarCamp Portland
2007-05-11 23:00 in /tech
I just got back from BarCamp Portland. Tonight was just socializing, tomorrow is all the sessions. I got in some good networking tonight and got to talk with a few people in some of the small companies around town doing interesting things. I’m looking forward to hearing more about some of the stuff going on during the sessions tomorrow.
My pictures of the event are up on flickr here, and you can follow the link from there to see all the photos of the event. If you look carefully, you’ll notice something fairly remarkable. By my estimate, there’s about 1 woman for every 5 men. That’s a lot more women than I’ve seen at other conferences (although admittedly we could still do a lot better). I wonder if this is representative of the tech industry in portland, or something about the BarCamp format that brings more women (less rigid structure, more social, less heirarchy?), or because a number of the organizers and helpers are women. Whatever the reason, it’s a nice step in the right direction.
