Obstacles to Democracy
2006-03-25 14:30 in /politics
Recently on the radio there was a segment interviewing people in the hometown of the 101st Airborne in Tennessee. A lot of these people seem to be having doubts about the war and whether it’s worth the cost to the US and to their community. One guy in particular cracked me up, though. He wondered whether the Iraqi people were really psychologically ready for democracy because, “they’ve been living in a dictatorship for so long, and they don’t worship the same god. They don’t even eat pork! I think that really just says it all.”
